a year in the life
Today marks the one year anniversary for the humble Blog of Doom. Here's the first post. Ah, such optimism.
Anyway, I had a couple of weeks off from work around this time last year. The lovely and quite talented Mrs. Camino had a short-lived blog detailing the planning and execution of our trip to England, Wales, and Scotland (we ended up saving money and going to Maryland and Virginia instead. You can read the four part series here, here, here, and here), and I figured that I could start a blog of my own to post some of the essays I'd written for my own amusement, continue some of the dilusional rambling that I would sometimes send to friends in emails, and occasionally attempt to channel the spirits of favorite authors.
I figured that I would soon lose interest and just delete everything after a few weeks. I tend to do that. However, a few very talented fellow bloggers and an assortment of friends and random passers-by started showing up on a fairly regular basis to read and sometimes comment on something I'd written. So it was that I kept writing.
Anyway, thanks for reading.

Happy anniversary! I hope there’s more to come!
Happy anniversary, Rex.
I hope you take this momentous time as a sign to hang it up...
i mean really, we all know what you look like now... you can never be 'Rex' to me anymore now that I've seen your nougat center...
Sure, you've had a couple of funny or mildly interesting moments... but you're no Arianna Huffington or anything... you don't even really have an accent... or do you?
now, that I have that out of my system....
congratulations... keep it up... i don't think I could go on living without the blog of doom...
tha b.
Happy anniversary!
You (and spouse), me (and spouse) and Men On Big Friggin' Horses. How can you refuse?
Oh, I have passed a milestone too 'cause Rex put a comment on my blog.
Thanks Rex and happy roll-catching to you too.
I really couldn't imagine a blogosphere without you. And to the person who said now we know what you look like, if they are depending on that picture, no they still don't.
That's a good disguise, Rex.
I really wasn't going to leave a comment on this entry but as I was looking at the other comments I caught a glimpse at the security image and it looked so difficult I imagined it was challenging me personally, so here goes. If you don't see this then you'll know it beat me.
See you. Joe
Just one year?
The wonder hasn't diminished, has it?
Rex,
Your blog is one of my most favored diversions during an otherwise boring existence. I love your point of view. You, sir, are an artist.
Cheers,
Chelsey Clinton
Wow. The Chelsey Clinton.
When I started this blog I wanted two things.
1) To be read frequently by one or both of the Bush twins.
2) To get Katie Couric fired.
You, Chelsey, are the closest I've come to number one. Oh, what the hell, I'm sure you've done some drinking in your day: Let's go ahead and scratch number one off the list.
I'd scratched number two off the list already, but those bastards at CBS had to help Katie land on her feet.
I suppose this means that I'll have to keep fighting on.
Thanks for the laughter! Happy anniversary!
Congratulations rex.. I only wish I had a statuette to give you, or a commemorative coin. actually I do but you can't have them.. because I'm a bastard.. but happy day to you!
Keep on rollin' Camino.
Well....
Happy anniversary. BUT....You realise of course that you're haunting me.
Late last night I was watching The Glenn Miller Story on TiVo. "Wait a minute" I thought to myself..."I know that guy."
After about 10 minutes of trying to figure out where I know that guy from I suddenly shouted, from the depths of my drugs, "REX!!!"
Apparently Charles Drake has a supporting role in that film.
Yep. Aside from being in "Harvey", Charles Drake also shares the screen with Jimmy Stewart in "Winchester '73". He plays a cowboy named Steve Miller.
Happy Anniversary to you, Sir! I can't stress enough how I enjoy my visits here.
Here's to another year!
And, by the way, I love me some "Harvey." It's in my Top 25.
Best,
Ryan
